Verena McCrae, Registered Acupuncturist
Verena was born in Venezuela and raised both there and in Canada, with Germany becoming another home base in recent years. Verena has had a unique upbringing that has helped her develop a passion for cultures, languages, the outdoors and alternative healing. Following her graduation from McMasters University, she began her journey across the country, spending close to four years immersed in the beautiful mountain life of Jasper Alberta.
On a surfing visit to the island, she came across Pacific Rim College and was introduced to the program that would satisfy her ideals regarding health and medicine. Soon afterwards, she moved to Victoria, and 3 years later completed the intensive Acupuncture Diploma program. This program, her wonderful teachers and her fellow students, greatly inspired Verena and taught her about the medicine and eastern philosophies she can now pass on to her patients. In 2010, she successfully completed the rigorous set of examinations required by the acupuncture governing board of BC (CTCMA), a process she will have to repeat in the Fall of 2012 after completing the Herbal Medicine program from Pacific Rim College.
The goal of Acupuncture is to return the body to it's optimum state of health and equilibrium, no matter what the present condition. Verena loves acupuncture because it treats the body-mind-spirit as a whole. She works with each client to determine their own unique needs and a treatment plan which could include acupressure, cupping, moxabustion, and diet therapy as well as acupuncture. Her treatments are greatly influenced by the Japanese style of Acupuncture, thereby adding a gentler touch and providing different techniques specific to the Japanese style. As a former varsity athlete, Verena also took a special interest in Orthopedic and Traumatology Acupuncture courses offered by her program, which provided a more rigorous focus on musculoskeletal injuries to the body. Most recently, Verena has taken a practical interest in Facial Rejuvenation techniques, which she hopes to offer patients looking for alternative and effective options in facial rejuvenation.

Verena is happy to be joining the team at Victoria Massage Therapy, while continuing her studies in Chinese Medicinal Herbs. In her spare time she can be found enjoying the outdoors, riding her bike around town, snowboarding, surfing, playing volleyball, doing yoga, traveling, taking photos and most importantly, eating good food and sharing it with friends.
